Our business has grown by over 60% and in 2022 we added more than 5.000 chargers to our network. The Blink family is growing fast worldwide, the European organization is taking shape. Every day we are getting ready for a future with projected exponential growth that will keep us very busy in the coming years!
2023 Has also started for us with moving into a brand new office. This year Blue Corner will become Blink Charging, a global brand of the most advanced EV technology solution providers in the world. We are not just rebranding, soon we will start migrating to the Blink network. The Blue Corner IT team grew to 25 people and is helping to make this key milestone a great success! 💪

Attention all Belgian energy consumers!
Starting January 1st, 2023, the Flemish energy regulator (VREG) has introduced a new capacity tariff for distribution network costs. This new tariff will replace the current calculation of grid costs and will be based on peak capacity (kW) instead of energy offtake (kWh).
Understanding the Peak Capacity
The peak capacity is determined by the month’s highest average quarter-hour power consumption. The highest monthly peak of the last 12 months determines the annual peak. This means that all electrical devices in your home, including EV chargers, will impact your monthly peak and ultimately your bill. Having control of your charging and other home appliances can help you to spread out your consumption and avoid high peaks.
Digital vs Classic Meters
Digital meter users will be affected differently than classic meter users.
- For digital meter users, the capacity tariff is calculated based on your highest quarter-hour peak in kilowatts (kW) recorded by your digital meter. This peak is called your monthly peak. Each month the average monthly peak is calculated: the average of your monthly peaks from the previous 12 months.  Charging your EV has an impact on your bill as your monthly peak is determined by the number of household appliances used at the same time.
- For those who still have a classic or analogue meter, the calculation method for the capacity tariff has changed. Since this type of meter does not register peaks (kW) as digital meters do, the calculation of your net rates will be as follows: Part of your net tariff will consist of a fixed contribution corresponding to a monthly peak of 2.5 kW, which is the minimum contribution for households with a digital meter. The remaining part of the tariff will be calculated as before, based on your actual energy consumption (kWh)
It’s important to note that charging your EV will still have an impact on your bill, but it will be less significant as there is no consideration for peak usage.
Reducing the likelihood of a high bill when charging your EV
One option is to limit the maximum charging capacity of your EV or charger. This way you can reduce the chance of reaching a high monthly peak.
Blue Corner is developing a new tool that will help you calculate the ideal maximum capacity for your charger or EV.
When we launch this tool, we will notify our customers and help them configure the chargers.
